Pets - Become an inventory item
Searched and checked thread index, didn't find anything similar.
Basic idea is simple, you can take your charmed pet to an NPC. That NPC will remove your pet and convert it into an inventory item. (Attribute of pet, type of pet, maybe the name?, level. Example: Oink, Elder Warthog - 17. Don't really need the name though, would be nifty, allow rename of course.) Also, don't need to be able to bring them out in towns, would be nice. Talk to an NPC to release the pet again.
Now you can sell your pet that you raised from a little baby. Or that black widow is simpler to obtain. Your pvp char can finally use something different! Maybe you just want a different pet for different situations and not have to re-train them over and over. Gotta get em all?
Maybe even transfer them to GW2. Another thing that would be nice is instead of talking to the NPC over and over, a slot could be used for whichever pet you want at the time (Just drag and drop the pet in, acts like an inventory item slot. Still need to get the pet 'converted' first. New PvP char pets can't be 'converted', prevent free pets.). Maybe drag and drop on to the Charm Animal skill, which when not in use can 'house' your pet so as not to take up an inventory slot.
Main ideas (counting only a /signed or /unnotsigned - July 12 #20):
1. Retain pets in some form for later use. /s - 2 /u - 0
2. Possibly allow trade/sale of pets. /s - 0 /u - 7
Also some way to unlock or transfer pets to a PvP char, which could be either.

I dunno. Part of the pet prestige is knowing you got it yourself. I'd be annoyed if level 3 jerks in Kamadan started running around with Black Moa/Phoenix/Spiders...
Maybe it's just me.

Don't make pets into the new minis.
Some bond you have with your pet - bought him off Tighty Whiteys for 15k.

This reminds me of Pocket Monster...
The best way is just make it customized to that character only. It's your pet after all.
I'd love to have a choice to keep multiple pets at the same time. I am still tossing whether to keep the White Tiger for my Ranger or go cap the Black Chocobo instead.

Nah, kennel is better,
1) i don't like the idea of selling pets.
2) if that is implemented, players are gonna wanna have even more storage space.

IF for the option for those who want to collect as many pets as possible because they like to have a variety of pets to use:

I hate the idea, if pets could be traded it would ruin the whole raise your pet from a pup and make it grow baised on your own personality thing gw has going. Also it'd kill any reason to go through all that hell to get the black widow, Just go to your local town and buy it for 10k. Also, if you keep it in the inventory it'd overpower rangers if they could just go and get 500 different pets raised different ways. Your only supposed to have a single pet for a reason, to keep the balance between your pet and your player, all of this suggestion threatens the balance immensly.
/not signed and anyone who signs this really doesn't understand the whole reason behind a pet.
(though I gotta admit, the amount of storage space we have now is excellent I would never say no to more. not pushing for it or anything but you can never have too much space right?)

I don't like most of the idea, I'd rather see that pets could simply be stored in memory and retrieved later at the Pet Tamer.

its a good idea but maybe instead of having them as minis in invent have them on show in guild hall or something so u can pick and choose which pet u want to take, mini personal zoo
trading/selling them nah could u sell something u raised from a baby

YES. More like this. I'd like to have a "stable" or the choice to leave my pets with the tamer guy but get them back later. My ranger girl raised a Moa from L1 and grew in levels with it, so now I have a silly emotional attachment to the thing, but I kinda think she'd look better with a Phoenix by her side. Being able to switch out pets (for one character, not between players or even between characters on one account) would be all kinds of awesome.

really i think we should be able to change type of pets(hearty, dire, and elder) but not the pet skin it takes away from the loyalty aspect if there are 12 other pets runnning around

I have already seen a game with 'eggs' of creatures you can use, train, sell and trade.
They are one of the most expensive items around... and one of the greatest grinds of that game...
If we are talking about items, what I'd like to see for animal companions is this:

Buying someone elses fully trained pet is not the way of the Ranger.
I would like to have multiple pets per character, but I think it should be implemented like the Hero select drop-down, where you choose one from your list of charmed pets whilst in-town.
Charm Animal would have to be modified slightly so you could tame multiple pets, and of course limit the max. number of pets kept by a character at one time
(I could waffle on about my idea of an Elite skill where you get to bring two of your pets into battle, but that's another topic

There once was a thread that had Charm Animal replaced with a Charm Animal Signet.
Once you used the signet, it was renamed with the pet you had charmed; Melandru Stalker Signet.
You could have many of these signets, and equip which one you wanted to use in your skillbar, and you could only equip one Animal Signet like the Elite skills, if you equip a second one, the first is removed automatically.
Like the Signet of Capture, they would all show up in your skills list and you choose, that way you could have multiple pets.

this take away this idea that the pet is yours and destroys whats left of the prestige with the harder to obtain pets.

I like the idea of holding a pet in inventory, but I don't think trading with other players is a good idea. Not balanced for a level 2 ranger in Shing Jea to buy a level 20 dire anything.
Pets in inventory would be cool if...
You were allowed a max of 3. This would allow you to train and then swap out, for example a Hearty spider for a Dire Hyena. This would make the ranger beast master class more viable and various ranger builds more flexible.
You were allowed to click and take out your pet in town. Bow to my 8 foot pink flamingo! err, I mean't jahai rat! err, warthog?

ditto
Customize them to the player so getting pets still takes some effort.
I'd love to be able to have multiple pets...and turning pets into inventory items is a great way to solve that problem...
One of the greatest things about Star Wars Galaxies pre NGE (CURSE LA/SOE!!!) was the Creature Handler Profession...you could have a datapad full of pets...of all kinds...while there isn't near the variety of animals in Guild Wars...it would still be fun to have a bunch of different kinds.
hope gaile notices the inventory idea (not the trading of pets idea) I think it's better than the stable idea she's mentioned.

So it's better to keep them in nothingness while you have another profession other than ranger or a different skill set that isn't beast mastery?
